Spirituality as Political Praxis: An Invitation to a Critical Ethic of Care

Anthony Cruz, MTS

This sermon situates spirituality as not some transcendent idea or abstraction, but rather to understand the ways in which we are all connected. In other words, this talk introduces spirituality as a deliberate ethic that questions one’s biases, attitudes, and histories to unveil systems of oppression, and to promote collective flourishing for all. The notion of the political, as described here, is not about adhering to a certain party or affiliation (e.g. republican/democrat or conservative/liberal), but rather acknowledging how we are implicated in complex power structures that have real everyday effects.
